ERC-7943: An Engineer's Breakdown of the uRWA Standard

ERC-7943 (uRWA) reached Final status in 2026: an engineer's breakdown of its compliance interfaces, forced transfers, and freeze hooks to build RWA tokens.

Frequently Asked Questions

ERC-7943, also called uRWA or the Universal Real World Asset interface, is an Ethereum standard that adds compliance hooks to existing token standards. It defines view functions for eligibility and transfer checks, plus enforcement functions for asset freezing and forced transfers, without binding implementers to any single identity provider or jurisdiction.
ERC-3643 is a full T-REX framework that mandates an Identity Registry, Modular Compliance contracts, and the ONCHAINID identity system. ERC-7943 is a minimal interface layer. It standardises the function names every compliant token should expose, such as canTransfer and forcedTransfer, while leaving the compliance engine and identity model entirely to the implementer.
ERC-7943 layers on top of ERC-20, ERC-721, ERC-1155, and the newer ERC-6909 multi-token standard through three sibling interfaces: IERC7943Fungible, IERC7943NonFungible, and IERC7943MultiToken. Each one requires ERC-165 so wallets and custodians can detect uRWA support at runtime before any transfer.
